To relieve anxiety, a Lake District hotel is offering ‘animal mindfulness’ workshops
Animal therapy is becoming increasingly popular.
To name a few, you can now do yoga with puppies, visit cat cafes, or arrange donkey visits to nursing homes.
The benefits that animals can provide to our well-being are well-known, and we are increasingly capitalizing on this.
But there’s a new getaway option in the Lake District to consider.
Armathwaite Hall Hotel & Spa has introduced a new wellness package for guests called “mindfulness with animals,” which includes plenty of animal time.
The venue is all about connecting with nature, and it also provides forest bathing and wild swimming to help people relax.
Described as “a real-life Dr. Dolittle experience,” guests are encouraged to “rewild” themselves and develop a stronger connection with the earth.
Guests will be able to meet red pandas, lemurs, tapirs, gibbons, alpacas, giant tortoises, and other animals as part of the package.
A private tour takes place outside of the park’s opening hours for a more intimate setting, and animal care is prioritized with no touching.
Because some of these animals are endangered, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get up close and personal with them.
‘Spending time with animals has been scientifically proven to increase our wellbeing, making us feel happier, calmer, and reducing anxiety levels,’ says Jen Grange, a forest bathing guide and mindfulness teacher.
‘On a physical level, it can help to boost our immune system, reduce pain, and lower blood pressure and heart rate.
‘Larger animals, such as cows, horses, and tapirs, have a very calming presence and slow heart rate, which helps us feel relaxed and soothed, whereas smaller animals, such as monkeys, goats, and meerkats, have a more playful energy that makes us smile and laugh, bringing joy.
‘Our domestic pets, such as dogs and cats, can often provide great emotional comfort and support.’
