With fold-out awnings, this incredible folding camping trailer can be tripled in size
Nothing beats a good awning, as evidenced by the inflatable camper awning or the log cabin tent with an awning that we featured a while back. This one-of-a-kind camper caught our eye because it uses two adjustable awnings that extend from each size to triple the space inside. Eduard Bohtlingk, a Dutch inventor, designed and built the De Markies Trailer, which translates to “The Awning.”
If you saw the De Markies camper on the road being pulled behind a truck, it would look just like any other camper or trailer you might see, but once it arrives at its destination, the magic begins. Two vinyl awnings pull down from the top of each side of the camper, creating incredible transparent walls that triple the trailer’s footprint.
According to the images, you can either pull down the expanded flooring without using the awnings to have an open side to the camper during the day. This allows you to enter and exit the camper without using doors (or even walls for that matter). When the bugs come out or you want to stay inside, simply pull down the vinyl awnings to seal the camper off from the outside world. A second layered awning can also be used as a shade/curtain for privacy when sleeping or changing.
The interior of the expanding camper is designed with a living area or lounge area on one side of the trailer where you can relax, read a book, or take in the views, and bedrooms on the opposite side that sleep up to 3-4 people. A kitchenette area, a four-person dinette table, and plenty of storage cabinets are located in the center of the trailer under the main frame of the camper.
When folded, the unique fold-out camper measures 14.7 feet long x 6.5 feet wide, and then triples in size when the fold-out camper sides are expanded with the awnings.
