If you want to avoid the crowds this summer, go to one of these lesser-known Greek islands

From May 2nd, anyone travelling to Greece will not be required to provide proof of a Covid-19 vaccine and airport testing procedures will be eliminated — just in time for summer.

When you think about Greece, you probably think of places like Crete, Corfu, Rhodes, and Zakynthos (Zante).

While those islands are stunning in their own right and well worth a visit, they are likely to be crowded in the summer, particularly now.

If you want to get away from the tourist traps and see a different side of Greece, consider going somewhere off the beaten path.

Paxos

Paxos, like the rest of the Ionian Islands, is famed for its gorgeous beaches.

Paxos is a small island off the beaten road with historic towns, secret beaches, and hot springs.

The Port of Paxi is a must-see, and if you have the opportunity, visit Antipaxi, a five-square-kilometer island only a short boat trip away.

Skopelos

Looks familiar, right?

Skopelos is perhaps better known for being the filming location for Mamma Mia. It is not an obvious choice for British holidaymakers.

The picture-perfect island in the Aegean Sea isn’t as accessible as other islands, therefore it’s relatively undiscovered compared to other parts of Greece.

Sifnos

Sifnos, another Cycladic island, is famed for its pottery.

You’ll be able to participate in pottery workshops and eat diverse Greek delicacies all throughout the island.

Sifnos should be at the top of your trip itinerary, crowned by the magnificent white Chrysopigi Monastery and home to secret, protected beaches.

Ikaria

This lovely island is named after Icarus, Daedalus’ son, who is thought to have fallen into the sea nearby in Greek mythology.

Campers come to this island, which is a wonderful spot to reconnect with nature.

Naxos

Naxos is the largest and greenest of the Cyclades islands, located in the Aegean Sea.

Naxos is a must-see, with its white, cubic dwellings, ancient ruins, and other historical treasures.

From Athens, you may fly or take a ferry to Naxos, which is also conveniently accessible from other Aegean islands.
