People are spreading myths about their home countries, some of which are completely false (While Others Are, In Fact, True)
When it comes to countries you’ve never visited, it’s all too easy to fall victim to stereotypes.
#1 Egypt: “We all ride camels around. I’m Egyptian, and I’ve never seen a camel in person.”
#2 Canada – “That we’re all very polite and put maple syrup on everything (However, the maple syrup stereotype is correct.)”
#4 South Africa – “We don’t have paved roads, cities, electricity, or any other modern conveniences; it’s just jungle with animals and people living in mud huts. These stereotypes don’t irritate me, but they do make me laugh.”
#5 Poland – “That the entire country is a grey, desolate wasteland. In reality, it’s a stunningly beautiful location with abundant natural beauty.”
#6 Ireland – “That we consume a lot of alcohol and eat nothing but potatoes.”
#7 France – “That we are unpleasant, that we do not shower frequently enough, and that we are always carrying a baguette.”
#8 Switzerland – “Everything is spotless, but everything is exorbitantly priced. This is entirely correct.”
#9 India – We eat nothing but curry. There are thousands of different dishes to choose from, and not all of them are spicy.
#10 Germany – “Our stereotype is best expressed through a joke: ‘How many Germans does it take to change a light bulb?’ One. We are extremely efficient and not amusing.”
