9 Safe Destinations to Travel
Nobody wants to think about the past. However, while we saw some progress in terms of travel last year, there were some setbacks as well. With the emergence of Omicron, a coronavirus variant, and growing concerns about crime and personal safety, it seemed only natural to focus on some of the best options.
This was put together using Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations, US State Department advisories, and data from the 2021 Global Peace Index (GPI)—which ranks over 160 countries around the world based on the level of security, societal safety, ongoing international and domestic conflict and militarization, and crime-related data from the Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection List. So, here are nine of the safest places to visit.
The United Arab Emirates
The United Arab Emirates, or UAE, is located on the Arabian Peninsula in Western Asia. Its capital is Abu Dhabi, a beautiful city. Its most populous city is the coveted Dubai, which also serves as an international hub.
This could be one of at least a dozen different countries to receive a Level 1 travel advisory in 2022. According to the CDC, there is a “low level of COVID-19” in this area. It is ranked 26 on the GPI. Be on your best behavior because flogging is still a legal punishment in this country.
Canada
Canada is the world’s second-largest country, located in North America across the northern US border. It is also frequently ranked as one of the world’s safest countries. The country began the new year with a Level 3 travel advisory from both the CDC and the US State Department due to COVID. Still, if you’re not in danger, it’s worth noting that Canada ranked 12th on last year’s GPI and third on the Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection List of “the safest places to travel to” this year.
New Zealand
Since the pandemic began in 2020, the attractive island country of New Zealand in the southwestern Pacific Ocean has been marked as “Off Limits.” Indeed, the country was known for having some of the world’s strictest pandemic regulations and border policies. As previously stated, many of us are hoping that they will soon be able to welcome tourists again. After all, New Zealand finished third in last year’s GPI and second in this year’s Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection list of “the safest places to travel.” It’s a popular destination for hikers and moviegoers interested in seeing where The Lord of the Rings films were shot.
Fiji
This island nation is in Melanesia, Oceania, in the South Pacific, and is open, despite COVID-19 testing requirements. Both the CDC and the US State Department have issued a Level 1 travel advisory for the country to begin the new year. According to the CDC, there is only a “low level” of the coronavirus present here.
Looking for suggestions? Dolphin Island, as previously reported on the website, is a fantastic option here. This one-of-a-kind island has what veteran visitors describe as “breathtaking beauty” that is both “surreal” and “near heavenly.”
The British Virgin Islands
The British Virgin Islands, also known as the Virgin Islands or the BVI, are located in the Caribbean, northwest of Anguilla and east of the United States Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The CDC and the US State Department both issued Level 1 travel advisories to this British Overseas Territory to begin the new year. Officials here have recently relaxed entry procedures for all fully vaccinated visitors. Baths National Park, Devil’s Bay Beach, and Spring Bay Beach are all popular attractions. Do you require some privacy? Consider staying on the privately owned island of Little Thatch.
Grenada
Grenada, an island nation in the West Indies in the Caribbean, was issued a Level 2 Travel Health Notice due to a moderate level of the virus. The United States State Department is currently advising all travelers to “exercise increased caution.” COVID-19 vaccinations are required for visitors to the popular Spice Isle, and testing and quarantine protocols are in place.
Grenada has always been regarded as a good value for money by travelers due to its significantly lower guest-to-staff ratio. Beautiful beaches, colorful markets, jade-colored waterfalls, lovely lakes, and spice plantations are among the highlights.
The Bahamas
If you want to have fun in the sun and have a good time in the sea, the Bahamas is the place to be. The CDC and the US State Department both issued Level 2 travel advisories to the islands last month. Local officials told the press that this is proof that their official protocols and various protective measures in place to combat COVID-19 are effective. Favorite activities include a visit to Paradise Island, swimming with the pigs at Pig Beach, and horseback riding on Little San Salvador Island, as regular readers are already aware.
Iceland
While the US State Department and CDC advised against travel to Iceland and most other countries last month due to COVID-19, this breathtakingly beautiful European island nation still tops the GPI list and the Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection’s list of “safest places to travel” this year. Iceland, also known as the Land of Fire and Ice, provides visitors with a variety of travel experiences, from the unexpectedly urban vibe of Reykjavik to the isolated, castaway landscapes.
Jamaica
Jamaica is a Caribbean island located just south of Cuba. The CDC and the US State Department have issued a Level 2 travel advisory for this island nation for 2022. Officials advise travelers to exercise caution due to COVID and the high level of crime in the area. According to the CDC, the island has a moderate level of coronavirus. It is well-known for its beach activities and seafood. It is also a popular romantic destination. Honeymooners enjoy more than just strolling hand in hand along the sand. They can also visit the numerous pubs and beachfront nightclubs.
