10 Of the World’s Top Water Parks

Water parks have risen in popularity since its inception in the 1940s and 1950s. World-class water parks may now be found all over the world, from North America and Latin America to Europe and Asia.

Many of the world’s best facilities are located in well-established areas such as Europe and North America. Therme Erding in Germany, for example, and Typhoon Lagoon at Disney World in Florida. Meanwhile, in Asia, several entrants are gaining appeal, such as China’s Chimelong Water Park and Wuhu Fantawild Water Park. In recent years, many newer water parks have entered the Middle Eastern market.

#1 Atlantis Aquaventure, Paradise Island, Bahamas

The Atlantis Aquaventure tropical water park in the Bahamas first opened its doors in 1994. On TripAdvisor, the water park is the top water-themed attraction in the region. Cloward H2O, an aquatic design firm, assisted with the project at Atlantis The Palm.

There are three Atlantis Aquaventure water parks in the world: the Bahamas, China, and the United Arab Emirates. After a 30% expansion, Aquaventure at Atlantis the Palm in Dubai is now the world’s largest water park.

#2 Siam Park, Tenerife, Spain

Siam Park, a 46-acre water park on the island of Tenerife in Spain’s Canary Islands, opened in September 2008. For eight years in a row, the aquatic attraction has been named the world’s best water park in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards. Wolfgang Kiessling owns Siam Park.

Waterslides such as Singha, Kinnaree, Vulcano, and the Tower of Power are among the attractions at the immersive water park. WhiteWater’s The Lost City has an extra 15 slides, towers, slides, bridges, and water features. The Mai Thai River is one of the world’s longest sluggish rivers.

#3 Typhoon Lagoon, Disney World, Florida, US

Typhoon Lagoon is a water park located at the Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. It is one of two water parks at the resort, and it was the second to open after Disney’s River Country. This closed in 2001.

The Florida water park first opened its doors in 1989. It is decorated in the style of a tropical paradise, with ships, fishing paraphernalia, and surfboards. Blizzard Beach, Typhoon Lagoon’s sister water park, initially opened its doors in 1995.

Waterslides such as ‘Crush ‘n’ Gusher,’ ‘Bay Slides,’ and ‘Storm Slides’ are among the Typhoon Lagoon attractions. There’s also the ‘Castaway Creek’ lazy river, as well as family-friendly water rides and the largest wave pool in North America.

Typhoon Lagoon reopened to the public in January 2022, over two years after it had been closed due to Covid-19.

#4 Chimelong Water Park, Guangzhou, China

Chimelong Water Park in Guangzhou quickly became the world’s most popular water park after opening in 2007. The water attraction includes a variety of colorful slides and tubing rides, as well as music and dance performances. WhiteWater, a leading water park manufacturer, provided slides, including China’s first Family Python.

Tony Sze, senior counsellor for the Guangzhou Chimelong Group, stated, “Our expectations were thoroughly exceeded by WhiteWater’s ability to design, manufacture, and manage the installation of both Chimelong Guangzhou and Chimelong Ocean Kingdom from the initial idea to project completion.”

Chimelong Water Park is part of a resort complex that also includes two hotels, Chimelong Paradise, Chimelong Safari, and International Circus. Chimelong International Ocean Resort debuted in 2014 on Hengqin Island in Zhuhai, China.

Su Zhigang established the Chimelong Group’s first theme park in 2006. Chimelong’s Guangzhou resort and Chimelong International Ocean both have world-class activities, such as a new family-friendly play and climbing area at Chimelong Water Park.

#5 Atlantis Aquaventure, Dubai, UAE

Atlantis the Palm at the UAE’s Aquaventure boasts multiple world firsts and award-winning water rides, many of which were designed by WhiteWater. Zip lines, slides speeding through shark-filled lagoons, and family-friendly attractions are available at the water park.

In 2008, Kerzner International debuted the second Atlantis Aquaventure water park on Dubai’s Palm Jumeirah. The first attraction debuted in the Bahamas on Paradise Island, and the third in Sanya, China, in 2018.

#6 Therme Erding, Erding, Germany

Therme Erding, the world’s largest water park, thermal bath, and spa complex, is located near Munich and attracts roughly 4,000 visitors every day. Therme Erding is an 185,000-square-metre spa that opened in 1999. It is the first of two German parks to reach this list of the best water parks in the world.

The overall length of Therme Erding’s 27 indoor and outdoor slides is 2.7km. The majority of these were provided by wiegand.waterrides, a renowned provider of water rides and attractions. One of the first water parks to feature a virtual reality (VR) waterslide experience was Therme Erding.

Therme Group, a global developer and operator of wellness resorts, is expanding its idea to Glasgow, Manchester, New York City, Toronto, and Frankfurt. The company has also announced plans to build a wellness resort in South Korea.

#7 Wuhu Fantawild Water Park, Wuhu, China

Wuhu Fantawild Water Park was opened in 2014 by Fantawild Holdings, a renowned one-stop solution supplier in the theme park sector. Fantawild operates a theme park and water park network in China.

Fantawild has water parks in Zhengzhou and Xiamen as well. The Boonie Bear Village, a lazy river, and a playground for youngsters with water pistols, floating bridges, and water cannons are among the attractions available at Wuhu Fantawild Water Park.

#8 Thermas dos Laranjais, Olimpia, Brazil

Thermas dos Laranjais is Latin America’s most popular water park and the world’s fifth most popular. It initially launched in 1987 and houses Brazil’s greatest complex of exhilarating waterslides. It is situated in the northern region of the Brazilian state of So Paulo.

Thermas dos Laranjais has about 55 attractions. Waterslides, surfing facilities, pools, rivers, and family-friendly activities are among them. In 2019, the park attributed decreasing attendance to economic factors. WhiteWater designed five of Thermas dos Laranjais’ most popular attractions.

#9 Aquapalace, Prague, Czech Republic

The largest water park in the Czech Republic is Aquapalace Prague, the only Czech entry on this list of the world’s greatest water parks. It opened in 2008 and is located in Estlice. It has indoor and outdoor sections that are linked. The main water park is 9,150 square meters in size.

Among the attractions and rides are 12 water slides, one of which is the longest in the Czech Republic. At its three zones – Palace of Adventures, Palace of Relaxation, and Palace of Treasures – the water park also has a winding river, artificial waves, and pools. Aquapalace has wellness amenities like saunas, baths, and relaxation zones.

#10 Caribbean Bay, Seoul, South Korea

Caribbean Bay is a water park with both indoor and outdoor areas in Yonqin, Seoul. It was debuted in 1996 as part of Everland, South Korea’s largest theme park. Pools, water slides, a spa, sauna, and a wave pool are among the aquatic attractions. Caribbean Bay also has the longest lazy river ride in the world. Some of the water slides and water ride activities at Caribbean Bay were designed by WhiteWater.
